Lophophora williamsii, often known as the Button Cactus, is a compact, slow-growing species prized for its soft, velvety skin and perfectly rounded form. Its smooth, spineless surface and gentle blue-green colouring give it a sculptural, almost pebble-like look that stands out beautifully on sunny windowsills or warm greenhouse shelves. This is a true collector’s cactus — minimal, architectural, and full of quiet character. Perfect for anyone who loves unusual, easy-care cacti that bring a touch of calm, understated beauty to their plant collection.
Plant Care
Light: Bright, direct sun for most of the day. A south-facing windowsill or warm greenhouse spot is ideal. Too little light will cause elongation.
Watering: Water very sparingly. Allow the soil to fully dry between waterings. During the growing season (late spring to early autumn), water every 2–4 weeks depending on warmth. Keep almost completely dry in winter — only give a tiny sip if the plant visibly shrinks.
Temperature: Prefers warmth. Ideal summer range is 20–32°C. Keep above 5°C in winter and avoid cold, damp conditions.
Potting: Use a very free-draining cactus mix. Our A Sandy Loam or Super Chonk with added grit is ideal. Repot only every 2–3 years and choose a shallow, wide pot for its naturally shallow root system.
Hot Tips: Underwatering is safer than overwatering. Provide airflow and avoid humidity. Rotate occasionally for even growth. Try not to disturb the roots unnecessarily.
Pet Friendly: NO
